Yi Men Primary School was founded in 1931 and covers an area of 8878㎡, including a construction area of 1227㎡. The original school was quite shabby, with potential safety hazards. Subsequently, 18 classrooms collapsed in the 2008 Wen chuan earthquake. After the quake, provincial CPPCC chairman Chen Xue heng, Party Secretary Lu Hao and urban leaders visited the school and oversaw relief work. The damaged classrooms were removed and replaced with 12 aseismatic classrooms and 11 portable rooms.
At present the main difficulty facing the school is a lack of teaching facilities in Music, PE, and Art, especially a shortage of professional teachers in these areas which restricts the development of student expertise. The existing staff need methodology training to develop teaching quality.
The school hopes local communities can lend a hand to help improve school conditions, teaching facilities and the environment to attract more, outstanding teachers to promote better quality education.
